Denver - Denver Public Schools has announced the appointment of the inaugural Director of Latinx/Hispanic Student Success, Dr. Patricia Hurrieta. Currently serving as the principal at Grant Ranch Elementary, Dr. Hurrieta will begin her role with the LSS team while concluding her commitments at Grant Ranch this semester. Plans for a seamless transition at Grant Ranch are already underway.

"The primary objective of the LSS team is to fortify our learning communities and enhance Latinx student achievement across Denver Public Schools," said Superintendent Dr. Alex Marrero. "Our focus will be on implementing the recommendations outlined in the La Raza report, in close collaboration with the community, to foster a supportive and empowering educational environment."

Guided by the rich history and diverse experiences of Latinx/Hispanic students, families, and educators within DPS, the LSS team will strive to meet the recommendations outlined in the La Raza Report and amplify Latinx student achievement.

The LSS team will commence its work by partnering with our community partners and a select group of schools with significant Latinx student populations. This collaborative effort will encompass leadership development, research, strategic planning, and implementation, drawing upon the expertise of national leaders in educational equity.

"I am particularly excited to support this work that will positively impact the district including our students at Grant Ranch," said Dr. Hurrieta. "I am thrilled to collaborate with the community to address the recommendations outlined in the La Raza Report. Together, we will strive to create an environment that fosters the success and well-being of our Latinx/Hispanic students."
