DENVER — Denver Public Schools is thrilled to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for its first-ever ADA accessible and fully inclusive playground at the Denver Center for International Studies at Fairmont on Wednesday, May 29.
DPS is committed to being at the forefront of promoting student-led initiatives, and the DCIS Fairmont playground project is no exception.
DCIS Fairmont students have played a pivotal role in taking the adaptive playground from a vision to a reality, through their work in the design and planning process, and collaboration with district leaders, ensuring the playground meets the diverse needs and interests of their peers. This student-led project has not only empowered the students but also fostered a sense of ownership and pride in their school community.
The new playground will be fully ADA accessible, featuring inclusive play equipment to ensure that student’s of all abilities can participate and enjoy the benefits of outdoor play. This inclusive design aligns with DPS's commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable educational environment for all students.
Construction of the DCIS Fairmont adaptive playground is made possible thanks to Denver voters, and the passing of the 2020 bond.
The groundbreaking will celebrate the collaborative efforts of the students and the community in making this project a reality. The goal is to have the playground completed by the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
Photo, video, and interview opportunities will be available.
