DCIS at Fairmont is a DPS neighborhood school and all enrollment is managed by the DPS Office of Choice and Enrollment Services. As such, enrollment is not guaranteed unless you live within our boundary neighborhood in Baker. Interested families must apply through the District choice process.

The following information will be used to prioritize applicants during the Round One SchoolChoice student assignment process.

Dual Language Immersion Stand:  We hold 50% of our spots in our DLI classrooms for students that are fluent in Spanish or bilingual. Therefore each in-coming class is filled off of two waitlists: Spanish qualified and not Spanish qualified.  You will note if your child is Spanish qualified on your DPS school choice application. We will reach out to have you complete the home language questionnaire for your child and may request to schedule your child for a language assessment. 

**NOTE: We do not admit students to the Dual Language Immersion program after 1st grade without pre-existing Spanish skills.

English-Only Strand:  Our English classes are filled from our waitlist with the priorities here built in: DCIS at Fairmont School Choice Priorities.

Denver Public Schools makes every attempt to accommodate siblings who apply together in the same school year. A separate SchoolChoice form must be submitted for each sibling to be considered.

DPS believes all families should have equitable access to the schools they feel are the best fit for their students, regardless of their background or where they live in Denver. That’s what SchoolChoice is all about.

Any DPS student who wants to attend a school other than their automatically assigned neighborhood school can take part in SchoolChoice. SchoolChoice is as easy as Find, Apply, Register!

• Find: First, to prepare for SchoolChoice, learn more about schools in which you might be interested, starting with your neighborhood school. Check out the School Finder, read the Great Schools Enrollment Guides, attend a school expo and tour individual schools.

• Apply: Create your account. (We recommend using your Parent Portal account username and password to log in). Then, fill out and submit the SchoolChoice application – including ranking your most-preferred schools (up to 12) – any time during the month-long Choice window.

• Register: Once placement notifications are sent in late March, contact your school for registration information.

Families will need to complete the BOTH the Colorado Department of Early Childhood Universal Preschool application (where they will select schools) and the DPS Choice application.

Did you know that the State of Colorado will offer families up to 15 free hours of
preschool?

Every child in the year before they are eligible for kindergarten is eligible for half-day
(15 hours) of state-funded, voluntary preschool to support their preschool enrollment
for the 2023-24 school year. Three-year-olds with qualifying factors are eligible for
part-time (10 hours) of preschool programming. Learn more about what’s happening

Participation in a pre-k environment that is rich in play, activities, learning, and positive social
interactions help students transition to elementary school with a solid foundation.

• Families applying for DPS ECE-4 (preschool for four year olds) will use BOTH the Universal Preschool application (where they will select schools) and the DPS Choice application (without selecting schools) in order to comply with the Colorado Department of Early Childhood system.

• Families should APPLY EARLY! In the Universal Preschool system, families who apply early have an advantage.
